Serendip-O-Matic

Serendip-O-Matic is the name which was found when the structural form of the CD Fredi Fluekiger and Jeroen Visser started to make in 2001, had already been established (hence the name). They discovered - while listening through old shelved recordings already declared dead – wonderful audiophile details and artefacts, saved on nearly forgotten media like 4-track compact cassettes. They put themselves to work with some of the dead sounds (sound-scapes, percussive snippets, acoustical theatre-scenery) to revive, edit them and sculpture them with a variety of instruments and voices. The result is a curious collection of songs and atmospheres, taken from the eternal archival sleep.

„...what happens when you die seems quite well-known:

After the dark ride through the underpass, you see the clear blinding light. Heavens, Nirvana, Eden? No, it is a simple neon-light. You find yourself back in the tumult of the immense postmortal bus-terminal. You notice rather quickly you cannot remember either the bus number nor the end station (or have you ever known?). The change is missing and what language are those drivers speaking?

Hardly known however, are the musical  activities at the time following the runni-round-in-circles. Music belongs to every part of life, death not excluded. As time needs to pass, the bleached pre-death passions are being exchanged in this busstation, and for a short – or longer – time revived.

Thanks to the interaction of the buddha in charge, the cultural manager CM Delay Lama, and a company specialized in reviving dead harddisks, a small, carefully edited collection of songs and atmospheres from the postmortalzone can now be presented...
