Visser-Weiss

Since 2023 we started a duo under the name Visser/Weiss, my new collaboration with Sandra Weiss,  saxophonist and bassoon player

After having been invited to play together at the Chateau Hornegg, organized by Kunsthaus Aussersihl and others, we discovered that our special combination of instruments opened up a plethora of musical possibilities.
Bassoon and modular synth might not seem to be the most logical choice to start a duo with. Nevertheless, Sandra's skills in micro-tuning and instrument-exploration, and my physical handling of synthesizer-elements create sonic structures of unexpected richness and color.
Both instruments are played 'acoustically', in this case meaning no additional reverb or delay elements are used. In this way they intentionally probe the very acoustics of the performance space much more then try to simulate one.
Using our dialog, our duo explores both the spaces in between in the Western tonal system as the acoustic space itself.
